To be performed at The Market Theatre on 19th & 20th September 2025
LADS are supporting new writers and directors by putting on a showcase of two new plays written by LADS members as part of the 2025 season.
Auditions for BOTH plays will take place on Sunday 18 May at 10am the Market Theatre. You can audition for one or both of the plays which are:
‘Agnes’
Written and directed by Patricia How.
This play is a one-act adaptation of part of Anne Bronte’s Agnes Grey.
CAST
- Agnes Grey – principal character. Agnes is 19.
- Mature Agnes – narrator and voice of Agnes. Age 40+
- Alice Grey – Agnes’ mother. Age range 40-50
- Mrs Murray – wife to Mr Murray who owns Horton Lodge. Age range 40-50
- Rosalie Murray – daughter to Mrs Murray. Age, soon to be 18
- Mary Grey – Agnes’ older sister. Age range 20-25
- Nancy Brown – a poor cottager who lives on the Murray estate. Age range 40+
- Mr Weston – local curate. Age range 25-30
Please be aware that the roles of Alice Grey and Mrs Murray can be taken by one actor, as can the characters of Mary Grey and Nancy Brown.
‘How Do We Get Out of This?’
Written by Emily Malvizis and directed by Nigel Higgs.
This play focuses on the problems of dating in today’s society, and the way friendship works when things don’t go the way we expect.
CAST:
- Genevieve – 24-years-old. Sophie and Mike’s best friend
- Sophie – 24-years-old. Genevieve’s best friend. Mike’s girlfriend
- Mike – 25-years-old. Sophie’s boyfriend. Genevieve’s best friend
- Jude – 25-years-old. Genevieve’s date.
- News Reader – Voice over.
Please be aware that the ages stated are only a guide. The main objective is to cast and produce the plays. Also, bearing in mind that this is new writing, there may be some adjustments to the scripts as rehearsals progress.
